Managed Care Organization 2020 Open Enrollment Tips

Managed Care Organization 2020 Open Enrollment Tips

Managed Care Organization (MCO) open enrollment happens every two years during the month of May. This gives the managed care organizations the opportunity to select a new MCO if they are looking to switch.

What is an MCO?

A Managed Care Organization is a group of medical care service providers who offer health plans to businesses. They are direct vendors of the BWC, and they supply nurse managed care for all claims. They also act as a liaison between the employer, the doctor, and the employee.

Tips from Spooner

  • Choosing an MCO can be overwhelming, so we wanted to share some tips to help inform you and make the processes easier.
  • The first step is to always consult with your third-party administrator to see who they have worked with and to ask any questions you might not be sure about.
  • Then you should also evaluate the BWC Report Card on MCOs.
  • The BWC also put together an employer satisfaction survey where you can use those responses to make your decision.
  • It is important to keep in mind that the majority of Ohio employers go with the recommendation of their third-party administrator when selecting their MCO during open enrollment.
